At the end of August 2025, Way to the Web Ltd. (the company behind ConfigServer) announced it will close permanently. The free scripts still work but won't receive updates. In the unlikely event that there are vulnerabilities in their scripts, they won't be fixed.
WHM/Cpanel users will notice the following error from the Cron Demon:
Oops: Unable to download: Can't connect to download.configserver.com:443 (hostname verification failed)
The official response from cPanel doesn't fully address the issue.
In addition to deleting the files from /etc/cron and /etc/cron.daily (and potentially other cron folders), you also need to disable CSF updates from the WHM plugin updates:
> Firewall Configuration > AUTO_UPDATES = OFF
Failure to do this results in the cron files being regenerated and causing the Cron Demon to continue to report the error.
